The Elmore County Farmers Federation’s Women’s Leadership Committee recently sponsored its annual Earth Day bag-decorating contest. This year, fourth-graders at Edgewood Academy were encouraged to participate in the activity.
“We asked students in Mrs. Shawn Fischer’s class to decorate brown paper bags donated by Winn Dixie,” said Betty Barrett, committee chair. “They were encouraged to use the theme – ‘One Planet, One Dream, Go Green.’”
Four winning entries were selected and students received cash prizes. Their bags were also on display at Wetumpka’s Earth Day celebration and at the Elmore County Farmers Federation quarterly meeting.
“The bags the students decorated were returned to Winn Dixie and used for customer groceries on Earth Day,” said Barrett.
Contest winners were Haylee Brown, Cole Freeman, Sydney Johnson and Emma Sanford.
