Equality celebrating with huge ‘Blowout’Published 9:07am Thursday, August 1, 2013
Equality’s inaugural Summer Fun Blowout will be held this Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. Activities will include an antique car show, an art show, karaoke, live music, hay rides, arts and crafts show and concessions.
Inspiration for the event came when Jimmy Wilson, owner of Jimmy’s Quality Food Market, talked with customers about antique car shows in lake communities. The possibility of holding one in Equality was met with enthusiasm. Then Wilson discussed the idea with Wayne Glenn, owner of the Equality Performing Arts Center.
Glenn said he was already planning an outdoor show in August to celebrate the center’s first anniversary, and the pair combined their efforts.
The event quickly grew to include a variety of activities, and all of the small businesses in downtown Equality will be open as well.
On the schedule are karaoke from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; booths featuring arts and crafts, fruits and vegetables and yard sale items; the antique car show; and food vendors.
Live music will begin at 2 p.m. and continue until the crowd disperses. There will be gospel, blue grass, country and rock and roll performers.
“I hope everyone will come and enjoy the festivities,” said Glenn. “Don’t forget to bring your lawn chair.”
Anyone interested in renting a booth for crafts, vegetables or yard sale items, or who wishes to enter the art show, should call Carol Hickman at 334-391-5090.
