Lights shine on new Mustangs as Stanhope Elmore hosts Smiths StationPublished 9:54am Thursday, August 22, 2013
Jeff Foshee’s depth chart has a plethora of new names that he and his coaches have had to learn.
Thursday night, the Mustangs faithful will get introduced to them as Stanhope Elmore takes the field in a season-opening jamboree against Smiths Station at Foshee-Henderson Stadium.
“I just want to see us play,” said Foshee, coach of the Mustangs. “We’ve got a group of young men that hasn’t played a lot of football.”
The Mustangs, who went 8-3 a year ago, are without the services of 75 percent of that team.
Foshee and his band of coaches had to replace eight starters on offense and seven on defense – including both the offensive and defensive fronts.
“I just want to see them go out and compete,” said Foshee.
Smiths Station, a 5-5 team a year ago, should return Jerrell Gilmore at quarterback and running back DeVante Marshall.
For the Mustangs its the debut of quarterback Jaryus Wilson.
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Millbrook’s Foshee-Henderson Stadium.
