Art guild exhibition opens with Sept. 15 receptionPublished 10:59am Thursday, September 12, 2013
For the past 47 years the River Region arts community has kicked off its art season with the opening reception for the Montgomery Art Guild and Regions Bank Art Exhibition.
The art exhibition will be on display Sept. 15-27. The opening reception will be Sept. 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Regions Bank lobby at the RSA tower on Monroe Street in Montgomery.
Awards will be presented at 1:30 p.m. The afternoon show will be followed by ArTrek, a tour of River Region art galleries.
The exhibition offers a variety of categories in the competition including oil and watercolor paintings, sculpture, photography, computer imagery, pastels, pencil, pen and ink and mixed media. Of the 212 works of art entered into the show this year from artists across Alabama, 101 pieces have been juried into the show. Serving as the show’s juror this year is Marilyn Laufer, director of the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at Auburn University.
The ArTrek portion of the opening celebration is organized by the River Region Art Gallery Association (RRAGA). Participating galleries in Montgomery and Prattville will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Starting at 2 p.m. the Montgomery trolley will begin taking people from the RSA Tower to all of the participating galleries and will make a loop throughout the afternoon.
The juror’s critique and reception will be held Sept. 18 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Regions Bank in the RSA Tower. It will provide an opportunity to hear the juror discuss the works chosen for the exhibit and her decision-making process. Following the critique will be a reception at the Alabama State Council on the Arts office on the first floor of the RSA Tower.
