A fatal car crash in Montgomery County was the result of a suspect trying to flee a traffic stop related to an investigation of a counterfeiting ring, according to Montgomery Police Chief Kevin Murphy.
The vehicle, a 2000 Lincoln Town Car, was listed as being stolen through the Wetumpka Police Department.
The Town Car collided with a log truck around 4:16 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Old Salem Road and the West Boulevard.
Joshua Barnhill, 31, of Montgomery died as a result of the crash.
The driver of the Lincoln, James Causey, 30, of Montgomery suffered serious injuries and was transported to Baptist Medical Center South.
Murphy said police had pulled the car over for a traffic stop and it fled the scene.
